The world’s largest sailing event, Kieler Woche (Kiel Week), held off the shores of Kiel, Germany starts next week on June 22, 2013. With approximately 3 million visitors from all over the globe, Kieler Woche is the largest summer festival in Northern Europe. Over 9 days, 2,000 events will take place on land with more than 5,000 yachtsmen and women from 50 countries due to participate in more than 400 planned regatta starts on 11 race courses.
SAP is once again partnering with Kieler Woche to help transform the world of sailing, not just for sailors but fans, organizers and the media as well. SAP technology will help sailors improve their performance as well as make it easier for fans to track and understand the race.
To bring fans and spectators closer to the action, the official regatta website will feature an online ‘SAP Live Center’ – for the first time available in German and English. The SAP Live Center will provide fans with real-time access to leader boards, 2D and 3D race visualizations, commentary and important regatta updates, so everyone can follow all the action on the water as it happens.
In addition, SAP sailing analytics will take sailors and fans beyond the numbers and will display the position of every competitor in real-time, their average speeds, distance travelled, estimated time of arrival at the next mark rounding, gaps to leader and gains and losses per leg. Post-race, replays and visualizations available, allowing sailors and fans to watch replays and visualizations of each leg of the regatta in their own time!
